semester starting up

Semester Classes Started Again… It’s Getting Busy Around Here

Classes have started once again at TFL, and it is getting busy around here.

Since the beginning of August, we have had three new students, one student graduate the program, and we just completed our annual Moab River trip.

This semester is going to be challenging but we are up for it!

In addition to our students who are taking classes at TFL, we also have three students who will be taking classes at DSU this semester.

Another student is still very involved in his apprenticeship gun smithing, and two additional students just begun or will be starting their apprenticeships this next week at GlitchBusters and BusyBusy.

As always, we are very proud of all of our students and the support we receive from parents, guardians, our mentors, and Educational Consultants.

TechieForLife wouldn’t be the same without each of you!

Learning marketable tech skills

Tech Class Update- Tailoring Learning Tracks for Optimal Learning and Engagement

Last week we started learning about databases and how to get started using the most popular open source database, MySQL.

Each student is also well into their personal development tracks for optimal learning and engagement.

Students are working on all sorts of things from javascript browser games to polishing up design portfolios.

I’ve also had the chance to continue to meet with each student one on one and go over how they are doing,

setting goals with them and tailoring their learning track to something they find engaging

while still developing marketable tech skills.

Tour of Rx TRAX Medication Shipment Company

TFL Students Tour Rx Trax- Medication Shipments Company

We went to see Rx Trax

which is a company that tracks medication shipments.

One of our teachers, Ryan, works here,

so we got to see the platform they use as well as the coding behind it.

The company plays an important role in the medical field

and the tour itself gave us a glimpse of that.

It was cool seeing what Ryan does as a programmer,

the platform and code looks very interesting.

Phase two advancements ceremony

TechieForLife Student Advancements- Congratulations!

Congratulations Amber and Joseph!!

Both of these students have advanced from phase one to phase two.

Amber was able to advance right before our winter break and Joseph advanced a few weeks after.

Each student was excited to receive the coveted “keys” to the Nest.

In order to advance from one phase to another,

students need to complete the current phase,

meet with the program director,

keep weekly SMART goals,

and go before the students for a vote.

We can’t wait to see what each of them can do with phase two.

TechieForLife Coding Ceremony Certificate

Certificate Ceremony For Tech Classes At TechieForLife

Back in December, TechieForLife held a certificate ceremony to wrap up the end of the semester.

Students received certificates once they had shown a foundation of literacy, skill, knowledge, and application in coding and design skill sets.

Our students have worked hard over the past semester and it was a great opportunity to recognize their hard work and success as they press forward in Coding and Design.

Tech Class- Student Progress Update

Tech Class Update…

Everyone has been rapidly improving,

and I am impressed by how quickly they are learning new things.

The students involved with Art Around the Corner should be very proud of themselves,

as they have received a great deal of praise for their hard work and their attention to detail.

Many of the students have completed the requirements for their web certification,

and the rest of them will be done by next week!  — Joe TFL Tech Coach
