Hiking at Snow Canyon Lava Tubes

Hiking in Snow Canyon’s Lava Tubes With Flashlights

In a place called Snow Canyon, near St George, there is a really cool hike that takes you to some lava
tubes.

This is the hike we went on at some point in March.

The tubes are set into the ground(of course) and go pretty deep into the earth.

If you want to explore them, you do need a flashlight and a good sense of where you are because,

according to some people, they go in all sorts of directions.

I don’t really  if that is true, but it keeps me from hiking too deep into the caves formed by the tubes.

Learning marketable tech skills

Tech Class Update- Tailoring Learning Tracks for Optimal Learning and Engagement

Last week we started learning about databases and how to get started using the most popular open source database, MySQL.

Each student is also well into their personal development tracks for optimal learning and engagement.

Students are working on all sorts of things from javascript browser games to polishing up design portfolios.

I’ve also had the chance to continue to meet with each student one on one and go over how they are doing,

setting goals with them and tailoring their learning track to something they find engaging

while still developing marketable tech skills.

"Wild Bunch" escapes...

“The Wild Bunch” Escapes…

We were named the, “The Wild Bunch” when we entered the escape room!

We had one hour to find Butch Cassidy’s gun

and we worked hard as a team solving puzzles,

using our nose to smell things and identify different scents,

we struggled with trying to figuring out anagrams

and unfortunately those anagrams held us back from finding Butch Cassidy’s gun

but we had a lot of fun working together.

It was fun to see how everyone’s brains worked so differently in the way they looked at the puzzles

but how each one contributed in helping us move closer and and closer to finding the gun.

Phase two advancements ceremony

TechieForLife Student Advancements- Congratulations!

Congratulations Amber and Joseph!!

Both of these students have advanced from phase one to phase two.

Amber was able to advance right before our winter break and Joseph advanced a few weeks after.

Each student was excited to receive the coveted “keys” to the Nest.

In order to advance from one phase to another,

students need to complete the current phase,

meet with the program director,

keep weekly SMART goals,

and go before the students for a vote.

We can’t wait to see what each of them can do with phase two.

TechieForLife Coding Ceremony Certificate

Certificate Ceremony For Tech Classes At TechieForLife

Back in December, TechieForLife held a certificate ceremony to wrap up the end of the semester.

Students received certificates once they had shown a foundation of literacy, skill, knowledge, and application in coding and design skill sets.

Our students have worked hard over the past semester and it was a great opportunity to recognize their hard work and success as they press forward in Coding and Design.
